There were 10 races on Saturday's card for the Labor Day Weekend's first day of racing at Ruidoso Downs. The program included the 870-yard, $50,000 Bill Reed Stakes for 3-year-old and older Quarter Horses & Thoroughbreds, which was won by HEZA CLASSY NOW. From post position #2, Bryan Candanosa rode to victory for owners Bob & Sissie McClure and trainer Toby Keeton.
The ninth race on the program was the $75,000 Labor Day Weekend Stakes #1. The short 250-yard race was won with a 1 length advantage by Apollitical Pence, setting a new track record. Francisco Calderon was in the irons for owners Dunn Ranch and trainer Monty Arrossa.
After the 10th race was over at the track, the second day of the 2022 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale resumed at the sales pavilion. The parking lot was full and the make-up ring was surrounded by a packed crowd.
One hundred twenty-three yearlings made up the second night’s consignment and 108 of them were sold for a total of $9,292,000. The average price for yearlings sold excluding repurchases was $86,037, shattering last’s year record one night average high of $74,841. This calculates to be an amazing 14.96% increase.
The second night of the 2022 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale saw a 10% repurchase rate that was lower than the 2021 rate. The 2022 median was $65,000, up $15,000 (30%) from 2021.
40 yearlings sold for under $50,000.
37 yearlings sold for $50,000-$99,000.
15 yearlings sold for $100,000-$149,000.
7 yearlings sold for $150,000-$199,000.
6 yearlings sold for $200,000-$250,000.
Leaving the top 3 High Sellers at $290,000, $310,000 and $460,000.
