Stakes Races Upgraded at Remington Park
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 25, 2019—Starting in 2020, Remington Park will have four Grade 1 stakes races during the American Quarter Horse / Paints / Appaloosas meet as the AQHA Graded Stakes Committee on Friday upgraded the Junos Request Stakes to top status.
The committee also upgraded 10 other graded stakes, bumped up a notch for the 2020 season.
The Junos Request Stakes joins the Heritage Place Futurity, the Leo Stakes and the Remington Park Invitational Championship as open Grade 1 events on the calendar for 2020.
The Junos Request Stakes is a 400-yard race for fillies and mares that are 3-year-olds-and-older. This year, that race will run for the final time as a Grade 2 race on closing day, Saturday, June 1. Time for Wine won this $100,000 race in 2017. This mare also won the Grade 1 AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship Stakes at Prairie Meadows on Oct. 14, 2017, and the Grade 1 AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship Stakes at Los Alamitos in California on Oct. 29, 2016.
In 2015, Premier Ethics won the Junos Request Stakes and ran fourth in the Grade 1 All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs. Thisfeatureisspecial won the Junos Request Stakes in 2012 and also was strong, finishing second in the Grade 1 Mildred N. Vessels Memorial Handicap at Los Alamitos in 2012, and third in that race in 2013.
The other stakes races that were upgraded at Remington Park for the 2020 season are:
- Decketta Stakes, Heritage Place Derby and Remington Park Distance Challenge from Grade 3 status upgraded to Grade 2 events.
- Mighty Deck Three Stakes and Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Derby upgraded from Restricted Grade 3s to Restricted Grade 2s.
- Boyd Morris Memorial Handicap, Easy Date Stakes, FL Lady Bug Stakes, Laico Bird Stakes and Mr Master Bug Handicap all went from Restricted Stakes with no graded status to Restricted Grade 3s.
