National Youth Racing Experience
AQHA RACING—OCTOBER 30, 2019—Five youth competed to earn scholarships worth a total of $6,000 October 24-27 at the 2019 American Quarter Horse Youth Association National Youth Racing Experience at The Downs at Albuquerque in New Mexico, during the Bank of America Racing Challenge Championships.
The youth selected to attend this year’s AQHYA National Youth Racing Experience were:
- Lauren Weaber of Eaton, Colorado
- Madison Matusiak of Roselle, Illinois
- Sophie Adams of Norwalk, Iowa
- Kelsey Hillman of Dayton, Idaho
- Morgan Johnson of Boyd, Minnesota
Three scholarships were presented to the highest-scoring youth who completed an application, online Racing Skillathon and an onsite interview during the Bank of America Racing Challenge Championships at The Downs at Albuquerque. The winners are determined from the cumulative score of the application, skillathon, onsite participation and interview.
Sophie Adams won the top prize of $3,000. Finishing second was Lauren Weaber, earning $2,000, and Morgan Johnson was third, earning $1,000.
The AQHYA National Youth Racing Experience introduces youth to the sport of American Quarter Horse racing. Participants got a behind-the-scenes look into the industry and met the people who make races happen every day, including stewards, announcers, owners, trainers, jockeys and their horses. Top AQHYA members were picked through an application process for this all-expenses-paid trip.
