Flash And Roll & Bodacious Eagle Make Big Moves in the Polls

Posted by Press Release on 12/19/2018

After a big weekend of racing at Los Alamitos in Southern California, there were major changes in both AQHA Racing National Polls. In the 2-year-old poll, Flash And Roll overtook Apocalyptical Jess for the No. 1 spot following a win in the $1,836,425 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1), and Bodacious Eagle soared up to No. 2 in the older-horse ranks after capturing the $600,0000 Champion of Champions (G1).

On Sunday night, Scott Bryant’s Flash And Roll recorded her second Grade 1 victory of the season while winning for the sixth time in seven starts. With G.R. Carter Jr. up for trainer Justin Joiner, the daughter of First Moonflash boosted her bankroll to $1,213,754 while dominating the second-richest race in the sport of Quarter Horse racing. Her only blemish this year was a seventh-place finish in the Ruidoso Futurity (G1) in June, but the California-bred rebounded to win the $942,750 Golden State Million Futurity (G1) in November at Los Alamitos. Her latest effort was enough to move her ahead of All American Futurity (G1) winner Apocalyptical Jess, who had held the top spot since winning the sport’s richest race on Labor Day at Ruidoso Downs. MM Fourinthemorning, winner of the Rainbow Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso, remained at third in the poll.

After a thrilling score in the Champion of Champions on Saturday, Johnny Trotter’s Bodacious Eagle moved up from No. 4 to No. 2 in the older-horse poll behind perennial leader Jessies First Down. Also trained by Justin Joiner, Bodacious Eagle, with Cody Jensen in the irons, defeated a stellar field of runners and prevailed by a nose over now-No. 4 ranked Jesstacartel and a neck over the rallying BH Lisas Boy, who checked in at No. 5.

Jessies First Down, the two-time reigning world champion who has topped the poll for virtually the entire year, is set to run December 30 in the $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park (G1).

Due to the Christmas holiday, AQHA Racing will not publish a poll next week. The final year-end rankings will be released the first week of January.

The integrity of American Quarter Horse racing is of utmost importance to AQHA. As part of a multifaceted effort to ensure integrity, AQHA has instituted a policy concerning awards and publicity that makes horses with racing medication positives and horses trained by trainers with racing medication positives ineligible for the AQHA Racing National Polls.
