First Andreini Scholarship Recipients Announced

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 3, 2019— The first class of John Andreini Scholarship recipients have been announced with six students receiving $1,000 each from the All American Ruidoso Downs Foundation (AARDF). 

The recipients are Karina Alvarez of Dexter, New Mexico; Darin Andrew Chavers of Thornton, Colorado; Tylo Kim Farrar of College Station, Texas; Cheyann Lynn Jaramillo of Santa Teresa, New Mexico; Colten Gavin O'Dell of Buena Park, California and Wyatt Dillon Stinebaugh of College Station, Texas. 

There were 27 applicants and the recipients were selected by the AARDF Board of Directors. 

"The quality of students who applied for a scholarship exceeded our expectations and we are pleased to contribute to some very worthy students," AARDF President Johnny Trotter said. 

Scholarship criteria included a requirement that the student or student's family be involved in the horse racing industry, a minimum 2.5 GPA in their most recent year of study, and that they will attend a university, college, vocation school, or certificate program within six months of the application deadline of April 15, 2019. 

John Andreini was one of the four original partners in All American Ruidoso Downs LLC (AARD) and a member of the AARDF. He died on July 27, 2018, at age 92. 

From San Mateo, California, Andreini was the founder, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Andreini & Company. He started the company in 1951 and built it into one of the largest privately held insurance brokerage firms in the United States. 

Andreini began his activity in quarter horse racing in 1968. He was a director of the American Quarter Horse Association and a member of the AQHA racing council. He was also a board director of the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association and a partner in the Los Alamitos Equine Sale. His 2600-acre JL Ranch remains an influential operation in quarter horse racing.
