RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 27, 2019— Four of the six winners of a John Andreini Scholarship from the All American Ruidoso Downs Foundation (AARDF) were present for a presentation at Ruidoso Downs on Monday.

The scholarship is worth $1,000 to each student and all the recipients have a family connection to horse racing.

The present recipients were Karina Aldavaz of Dexter, New Mexico; Tylo Kim Farrar of College Station, Texas; Cheyann Lynn Jaramillo of Santa Teresa, New Mexico; and Wyatt Dillon Stinebaugh of College Station, Texas.

Unable to attend were Darin Andrew Chavers of Thornton, Colorado and Colten Gavin O'Dell of Buena Park, California.

There were 26 applicants with the recipients determined by the AARDF Board of Directors.

"This scholarship means a lot," Jaramillo, 18, said. "Now I don't have to worry about everything financially and I still have the opportunity to work around the track." She is working in the Ruidoso Downs' jockey's room kitchen this summer.

"If I didn't have the scholarship, I would be trying to find another job."

A student in the New Mexico State University system, Jaramillo recently finished her freshman year.

Jaramillo's family has a strong connection to New Mexico racing. Her father Paul Jaramillo gallops horses, her mother Tina Dennison is a groom, her uncle Simon Buechler is a trainer, her aunt Dana Buechler works with Simon and her grandfather Dan Dennison is a trainer.

Scholarship winners must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in their most recent year of study and will attend a university, college, vocation school, or certificate program within six months of the application deadline of April 15, 2019.

The scholarship is named after John Andreini, one of the four original partners in All American Ruidoso Downs LLC (AARD) and a member of the AARDF. He died in 2018.

Andreini started Andreini and Company in 1951 and built the business into one of the largest privately held insurance brokerage firms in the United States. He began involvement in quarter horse racing in 1968 and was active as and owner, breeder and with many organizations connected to horse racing.
