All American Countdown - Monday, September 3

There was a line of traffic mid-morning Monday getting to Ruidoso Downs Race Track on Labor Day for the long awaited $3,000,000 All American Quarter Horse Futurity-G1. Races began at noon this year. There were 11 races scheduled on the program, only 5 of them were for Quarter Horses. The two top Quarter Horse stakes races for the day were the All American Futurity-G1 and All American Juvenile. Cheryl Pevehouse and her daughter Shawn Ellis sang the Star Spangled Banner to open the ceremony and later sang again before the sixth race to honor our troops while a flag was spread across the racetrack. The sixth race was the Tribute To The Troops Claiming Stakes. Flyin Eagle by One Famous Eagle won under jockey Augustin Silva.

Jeff True announced the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Jacky Martin’s first (of seven) wins in the All American Futurity. Lisa Perry designed a statue to be on display next to Jack Brooks in the saddling paddocks once it’s finished.
