All American Countdown – Saturday, September 1

There was a full day of racing at Ruidoso Downs on Saturday. There were six out of eleven Quarter Horse races scheduled for the day. The race card included two stakes races; the $25,000 Attillas Storm Stakes for Thoroughbreds and the $25,000 First Moonflash Stakes for Quarter Horses. A new Allowance race was added this year for the $20,000 Cesar Gomez Memorial.

The $25,000 First Moonflash Stakes was won by four-year-old gelding Cartels Star Daddy under jockey Raul Herrera. Cartels Star Daddy is by Big Daddy Cartel out of Chivato Star by Dash To Chivato. He was bred by Jimmy Negrete, owned by Martin Orona, Sr and his trainer is Martin Orono. 2nd to Big Daddy Cartel was You And Eye by Chicks Regard out of Jess Uni by Feature Mr Jess. The 3rd place finisher in the First Moonflash Stakes was Eyesawagon by Gonnamakeyoureyesblue out of Wagons Maid by Calligrapher. The remaining order of finish is: 4th Nolans Theory by Chicks Regard, 5th Arandanos by Jesse James Jr, 6th First Moon Fire by First Moonflash, 7th Mystic Daddy by Big Daddy Cartel and 8th Dream Bigg by Big Daddy Cartel.

The $20,000 Cesar Gomez Memorial was won by Jest Famous by Mr Jess Perry and out of Famous Corona by Corona Cartel. He was bred by Jon & Donna McPherson, owned by MRB Racing, LLC, trained by Blane Wood and ridden by Ricky Ramirez. Coming in 2nd was J Gatsby by Jesse James Jr out of Maggies Miracle LX by Dean Miracle. And, placing 3rd was U Got The Look by Jesse James Jr out the The Masters by Chicks Beduino. The remaining order of finish was: 4th Racey Blaz by Texas Icon, 5th KR Cracker Jack by Favorite Cartel, 6th TDZ Tender Dash by Jess Zoomin, 7th Royal Mesa Moon by Corona Cartel, 8th Coco Jess Perry by Mr Jess Perry and  9th Baja La Panthera by Mr Jess Perry.

The second day of the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale resumed after racing was concluded over at the sales pavilion. Everything went off without a hitch and the second day totals brought in $6,111,500 before repurchases. After repurchases,  the gross sales were $5,535,500 averaging $48,135. Before the sale began, Lowell Neumayer presented Dr. Leonard Blach an award for 30 years of outstanding service as the sale veterinarian.

The second day of the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale's top five seller's brought in $922,000 - 2 colts and 3 fillies.

A breeding to One Famous Eagle was sold for $35,000 after Hip #207 at the Ruidoso Yearling Sale. The breeding to One Famous Eagle was donated by Burnett Ranches, LLC and Jana & Johnny Trotter. Proceeds from the sale of the breeding were donated to the racetrack chaplaincy who assists those needing both physical and spiritual guidance at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack.
