The highly anticipated Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale kicked off its first day with impressive results, highlighted by spirited bidding and standout yearlings that set the tone for the weekend.
The session’s highest seller was #136 QS Shes A Hottie, a filly by FDD Dynasty out of Caliente Caramelo, consigned by Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches LP and sold for $390,000 to Jimmy Barton / Lance Bland / Scott Bryant / Gary Cain.
The second highest seller was #17 A Tres Of Politics, consigned by Lazy E Ranch LLC, Agent for The Mixer Ranch, which sold for $340,000 purchased by Jimmy Harrel and Ryan Terry. Hip #40 Thewayjesswantstoo, consigned by Marty Powers, Agent for Darling Farms & Dr. Richard Beck, followed closely behind selling for $325,000 which was purchased by Sammy Valeriano.
Apollitical Jess sired 21 yearlings in the sale and in usual fashion led as the top sire for total money sold with $2,516,000.
In total, 178 yearlings were sold on Day One, with 38 surpassing the $100,000 mark, underscoring the depth and strength of the catalog.
By division, colts led the averages, with 110 sold for an average price of $68,377 (excluding repurchases.) Fillies held strong, with 68 sold averaging $56,058 (excluding repurchases.) No geldings were sold.
Walt Wiggins, the sales general manager, shared his thoughts below:
“We were very happy with tonight’s sale. There were 38 different yearlings that sold for over $100,000 and the top yearling for the night sold for $390,000. The strength of the sale was shown with the median price being $45,000 per yearling which was up 12.5% over last year’s session one.”

The Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale concluded as an outstanding success! The sale was full of large crowds and active bidders. There was a horse for everyone as the catalog was stacked with outstanding pedigrees from all varieties of background.
The sale was up about $800,000 over last year’s sale. There were a total of 81 yearlings (excluding repurchases) that sold for over $100,000. There were 9 yearlings that sold for over $300,000. And there were 3 that sold for over $600,000, including the sale topper Hip #318, which sold for $735,000, Criminal Justice by Favorite Cartel out of the Corona Cartel mare Remember Me Rose. The yearling was consigned by Burns Ranch, Agent and Bobby D. Cox bought the standout colt. The second high seller was Hip #396 Treasured Empire, which sold for $700,000. Caliche Walls Interests LLC bought the colt, and it was consigned by La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC, Agent. Linda Joiner bought the final horse to go over $600,000 – the third highest seller, Hip #402 Lightning Flash. She filled in $650,000 on the ticket for the yearling who was consigned by Julianna Hawn Holt.
As far as sires are concerned, Apollitical Jess led as the leading sire of yearlings for a total of $5,538,000 bringing in 18% of the sales total revenue. However, Eye Am King marked his yearlings with the highest average sold at $140,714 per yearling.
MJ Farms, Agent was the top Consignor for the sale.
West Texas Racing Partners LLC added 8 new yearlings to their stable as they were the top Buyers spending $1,087,000.
Overall, the 2025 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale highlighted the strength of proven sires and showcased impressive emerging ones. Once again, the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale showed why it stands as the industry’s premier marketplace for the future runners.
