Closing night of the 2025 American Quarter Horse season took place on Saturday at Delta Downs as the track hosted an 11-race program, which included seven stakes headed by the $534,640 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Futurity (RG1). The 350-yard race for 2-year-olds was won by Jaime Cardenas’s Rf Fast Dash N Blood under jockey Jorge Javier Garcia, who got a leg up from trainer Miguel Castillo.
Rf Fast Dash N Blood completed a perfect summer at Delta Downs by winning all six of his starts and capturing the three richest races of the meet. In addition to his score in the LQHBA Sale Futurity, he also won the $399,000 Laddie Futurity (RG2) and the $598,000 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1).
Using an ultra-quick start, Rf Fast Dash N Blood quickly seized control in the LQHBA Sale Futurity before dealing with and ultra-game Luziana Man in the final 100 yards. At the wire it was a photo finish with Rf Fast Dash getting the decision by just a head with Ten Plus finishing another 1 ½-lengths behind the top pair in third.
The running time for Rf Fast Dash N Blood was 17.388, which equaled a speed index of 102. Each stakes race on the program was contested of a track listed as wet fast.
Rf Fast Dash N Blood earned $240,588 for his LQHBA Sale Futurity heroics. His total bankroll now stands at $722,989.
Bred in Louisiana by Rogers Farm/Tim and Jennie Rogers, Rf Fast Dash N Blood is a 2-year-old bay gelding by Apollitical Blood, out of the Heza Fast Dash mare Fast Dash N Deb. He was purchased by his connections for $80,000 at the 2024 LQHBA Yearling Sale.
Sent to the post at odds of 1-5, Rf Fast Dash N Blood paid $3.40 to win, $2.20 to place and $4.20 to show. Luziana Man was worth $3.40 to place and $2.20 to show. Ten Plus returned $4.20 to show.
It was a 58-1 longshot winner in the $50,000 LQHBA Sale Juvenile as Mr Pot Scraper upset the field under jockey Randy Edison, Jr. The David Bustamante trainee broke his maiden in the race while making his fifth career start and paid a whopping $118 to win for his backers. Mr Pot Scraper is owned by Marquis Watson.
The LQHBA Sale Juvenile serves as a consolation race for horses who came up short while attempting to qualify for the LQHBA Sale Futurity.
Mr Pot Scraper is a 2-year-old sorrel gelding by Mr Piloto, out of the Game Patriot mare Rios Dashing Patriot. He was bred in Louisiana by Darling Farms LLC.
Marcy Train B ($5.60) won her second stake race of the summer at Delta Downs when she took the $50,000 LQHBA Sale Debutante under jockey Jorge Javier Garcia. Back on May 23 she was victorious in the $244,000 Lassie Futurity (RG2) for owner Jaime Cardenas and trainer Miguel Castillo.
Marcy Train B is a 2-year-old sorrel filly by Freighttrain B, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jessbye Marcy. She was bred in Louisiana.
The $50,000 Audubon Stakes was won by Jes Winnin Cartel ($26.20) under jockey Rene Hernandez, who accepted the mount from trainer Noe R. Sanchez III. Jes Winning Cartel, who is owned by San Juana Montano, notched her eighth win from 23 career starts in the race. Her bankroll now stands at $174,745.
Bred in Louisiana by Mars Racing/Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Jes Winnin Cartel is a 5-year-old brown mare by Five Bar Cartel, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Winnin.
The $50,000 Lakeview Dash was taken by Jonathan Meraz’s Ttt La Kas ($6.60) under jockey Randy Edison, Jr., who got a leg up from trainer Jose Carrizales. The win was the seventh from 24 career starts for Ttt La Kas, who also finished second in the Nag Nest Stakes earlier this summer at Delta Downs. Ttt La Kas has now earned $125,260 during her career.
Bred in Louisiana by Rickey Thompson, Ttt La Kas is a 4-year-old bay filly by Ivan James, out of the Kas I Said So mare Ttt Kas.
Tha Duke ($5.80) captured the $50,000 Mid City Stakes under jockey Noe Castaneda and he did it in a rapid time of 21.547 seconds for 440 yards, which equaled a speed index of 108. Tha Duke is owned in partnership by his breeders Ashton Elder and Miguel Romero, Jr. and is trained by Leonel Hernandez.
The Duke has now won 10 of 20 career starts and his earnings have now reached $536,548 after taking home $30,000 on Saturday night.
The Duke is a 5-year-old sorrel gelding by Rc Me Leaving You, out of the Jess Louisiana Blue mare Precious Perry Girl. He was bred in Louisiana.
Jaime Cardenas’ Dropping Dimes ($7) won the $50,000 Treme Derby under jockey Jorge Javier Garcia. The Miguel Castillo trainee scored his first stakes win in the event after finishing a close second to rival Gold Gun Z in the Delta Downs Derby earlier this summer. Gold Gun Z went off favored in the Treme Derby but finished off the board in the 350-yard showdown for 2-year-olds.
Dropping Dimes is a 3-year-old black gelding by Apollitical Blood, out of the Freighttrain B mare Depositing Chex. He earned $50,000 for his Treme win and now has a bankroll of $102,513.
Delta Downs will now be dark for live racing until October 10 when the track kicks off its 2025-26 Thoroughbred season. The 76-day stand will run through February 21 with programs scheduled most Wednesday through Saturday nights. Regular post times are set for 4:45pm CT.
