One of the richest races of the season took place at Delta Downs on Saturday night. It was the $368,895 Laddie Futurity (RG2) for Louisiana-bred colts and geldings who qualified for the prestigious event back on May 3.
Rf Fast Dash N Blood was the fastest qualifier for the Laddie and he didn’t disappoint in the final, defeating Luziana Man by ½ length in a rapid time of 16.580 seconds for 330 yards over a sealed muddy racetrack, which equaled a speed index of 99. Atta Boy Slim checked in third, another 1-1/2 lengths behind the top pair.
Rf Fast Dash N Blood was ridden to victory by Jorge Javier Garcia and is trained by Miguel Castillo. The bay gelding is owned by Jaime Cardenas. Those are the same connections who won the $243,625 Lassie Futurity (RG2) on Friday night with Marcy Train B.
The win by Rf Fast Dash N Blood was the second of his four-race career. His other tally came in the Laddie trials three weeks ago. Saturday marked his first stakes win and he earned $134,448 for the score, which raised his bankroll to $165,794.
Bred in Louisiana by Rogers Farm/Tim/Jennie Rogers, Rf Fast Dash N Blood is a gelding by Apollitical Blood, out of the Heza Fast Dash mare Fast Dash N Deb. He was purchased by his connections for $80,000 at the 2024 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale.
Sent to the gate at odds of 2-1, Rf Fast Dash N Blood paid $6.40 to win, $3.80 to place and $3 to show. Luziana Man was worth $7.80 to place and $5.80 to show. Atta Boy Slim returned $5.60 to show.
The $40,000 Laddie Stakes was also contested on Saturday night’s program. The 330-yard race served as a consolation for the Laddie Futurity with horses who failed to make the gate for the big race.
Party Tyme Racing’s (Jerry Deville & Jose Espinosa) Jessapilottrain ($5.20) burst from the inside post position in a field of nine runners to grab the lead and go on to a dominant victory in the Laddie Stakes under jockey Daniel Sandoval-Granado. The Jose Espinosa trainee defeated Mysterious Eagle V by 1-1/2 lengths with Gold Broiler Z finishing another head behind the runner-up in third. The running time for the winner was 16.988 seconds (87 speed index).
The win by Jessapilottrain was the second of his four-race career and her earned $24,000 for the effort. He now has a bankroll of $68,711.
Bred in Louisiana by Grant Farms, Jessapilottrain is a 2-year-old brown colt by Freighttrain B, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Lady Pilot. He was purchased for $24,000 at the 2024 LQHBA Yearling Sale.
