Prairie Meadows Racetrack in Altoona, IA will hold a mandatory payout of the Pick 5 jackpot on Sunday, August 10.
The track received approval from the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission to force out the jackpot, which hasn’t been paid since June 21.
“The Pick 5 jackpot has grown to $257,741 going into the races of Saturday, August 9,” noted Garrick Mallory, Assistant Director of Pari-Mutuels at the Altoona track. “We feel it’s a great opportunity for wagering enthusiasts across the nation to take advantage of the large pool currently, decent field size to finish the card and a mandatory payout all adding up to a potential big score for handicappers,” Mallory explained.
The Pick 5 sequence on Sunday, August 10 covers the final five races of an eleven-race card during the 14th weekend of the 2025 racing season in Iowa.
The seventh race, the kickoff leg of the Pick 5 sequence, is scheduled for a 6:33 PM CT start. The sequence concludes with the eleventh race, a $30,000 claiming sprint for Iowa registered fillies and mares which have never won three races. A field of 9 competitors was signed on for the Sunday finale, which is scheduled for an 8:17 PM CT post time.
Mallory added that in the event the jackpot is paid out on Saturday, August 9, Prairie Meadows will still hold a mandatory payout of the Pick 5 jackpot as scheduled on Sunday, August 10.
Prairie Meadows races on a Friday through Monday schedule, with post times at 6 PM CT on Friday and Saturday and 4 PM CT on Sunday and Monday. Racing fans and handicappers should take note that a special make-up day of Thoroughbred-only racing is set for Tuesday, August 12 with a 1:00 PM CT post time for the seven-race card.
