Gentry Farms will be represented by two outstanding fillies in their quest for a first victory in the Grade 1, $430,000 Los Alamitos Oaks on Saturday night. Leading the charge is fastest qualifier Beach Walk, who headlines the prestigious race for the renowned Kentucky-based operation. The eight-race program kicks off at 6 p.m.
Joining Beach Walk in the 400-yard event is stablemate Bold N Beautiful, giving Gentry Farms a formidable duo in the Oaks final. Over the years, Gentry Farms has campaigned many of the top mares in Quarter Horse racing, including AQHA Champions Kiss Thru Fire and Fearless Moon, as well as standouts like College Scandal, Heartbeat, In My Heart, Ohana Spirit, Separate Heart, Fovee, and Fredaville.
The Gentry family’s legacy in the sport extends back to the 1990s and earlier, with exceptional horses such as Such An Easy Effort, Fearless Freda, Fodice, and Easy Kiss. They also bred the legendary mare Dasha Freda, the dam of 2015 World Champion Heza Dasha Fire.
Beach Walk and Bold N Beautiful now look to continue that proud tradition. Beach Walk secured the fastest qualifying time of :19.929 under jockey Martin Arriaga, winning her trial by a half-length in a field that included fellow Oaks finalists Call Her Perfect and Elizabeth Alexandria. Trained by Juan Aleman, the Freighttrain B filly out of Heartbeat enters the final with a record of three wins and five seconds from nine starts.
“I had the pleasure of training Beach Walk’s mother and many of her daughters,” Aleman said. “Heartbeat was an exceptionally fast filly with a lot of heart, and she’s passed that same determination on to her daughter.”
Aleman also conditions Bold N Beautiful, who finished as the third-fastest qualifier after placing second to Apolitical Chilitas in the trials. Also by Freighttrain B, Bold N Beautiful is out of Always Dreaming, a former stakes finalist at Los Alamitos. Her granddam is the outstanding Fovee, a multiple graded stakes winner and victor of the 2011 Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap. Bold N Beautiful will start from post four with Eduardo Nicasio aboard.
Apolitical Chilitas, owned by Licon Farm and Ranch, LLC, brings Grade 1 experience into the Oaks final, having previously competed in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1 and the Golden State Million Futurity-G1. Trained by Jose Flores and bred by Omar Paredes, the Apollitical Jess filly delivered a determined nose victory in her trial. She will start from post five under jockey Cruz Mendez.
“She’s always been incredibly determined and gives everything she has,” Flores said. “She’s proving what she’s capable of, and I believe there are great things ahead for her.”
The complete field for the Los Alamitos Oaks, from the rail out: Shaken Goin On, Elizabeth Alexandria, Up To Party, Bold N Beautiful, Apolitical Chilitas, Streakin Sis, Beach Walk, Call Her Perfect, Hott Temptation, and Powerful Wise Lady.
