Fine Am Eye and jockey Noe Garcia Jr. broke on top and held off the field to win the $50,000 Vista Distaff Stakes for New Mexico-bred fillies and mares Saturday at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack.
The five-year-old mare has won the annual running of the Vista Stakes twice in a row for Backdoor Thoroughbreds and owner Chuck Sonnenberg. Fine Am Eye won for the ninth time in her career out of 24 starts compiling earnings of over $250,000.
Trained by JJ Gonzales III, Fine Am Eye ran 350-yards in 17.854 seconds paying $8.00, $4.60 and $3.80. The mare is sired by Eye Am King out of the mare Starsmith by Tres Seis.
