Cadillac Ease HW, one of the most accomplished active racehorses in Brazil, claimed another major victory by capturing the III Derby Sr. Jonatas Dantas at Jockey Club de Sorocaba.

The event took place on Saturday, October 11, at South America’s premier Quarter Horse racetrack, which recently underwent a major renovation. The race offered a purse of R$135,000 (US$24,700) at 440 yards (402 meters).
The six-horse field entered the gate for a single decisive heat, with Sapeca Dynasty HWS going off as the post-time favorite. The mare had previously captured the prestigious Rainha da Velocidade Stakes and entered the Derby undefeated, with three wins from three starts.
Cadillac Ease HW, a 5-year-old gelding, delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance, stopping the clock in 22.069 seconds. He was ridden by jockey David Oliveira and represents Haras Weisheimer, both breeder and owner of the III Derby winner.

One of Brazil’s winningest trainers, Valdemir Barbosa Silva, made a successful return to the races after a period away from the track. Over the course of his career, he has trained several top horses, including the national legend Summer Toll. He also saddled Over The Moon, the current Sorocaba track record holder at 440 yards (402 meters), with a time of 20.932 seconds—a mark set in 2018 for the same owner, Haras Weisheimer.
With this victory, Cadillac Ease HW earned the third stakes title of his career. He has finished first or second in 14 of 18 starts, with 10 wins and total earnings of R$420,592 (US$76,950). His sire, Fantastic Corona Jr, built a strong legacy in Brazil after being imported in 2011 following a U.S. racing career with 7 wins and earnings of US$541,896. He passed away in 2023.
His dam, Love Bela Ease (by Jess Arisen Moon), never started on the racetrack.
Runner-up honors went to Sapeca Dynasty HWS (by Corona For Me, out of Royal Wild Dynasty by FDD Dynasty). She chased the leader throughout but couldn’t reel him in, seeing her unbeaten streak come to an end. She may face Cadillac Ease HW again in the Champion of Champions of Brazil, scheduled for December.
Eletron Cartel MRL, Paradise Reason WA, Drako Fantastic HLA and Frankfurt Verde completed the order of finish.
“At every meet we work to improve. We made a major investment to reinaugurate our track. I always say the true leader here is the horse, and I’m very happy for everyone’s success. If there’s any mistake, we’ll fix it—that’s the job of our entire board,” said Jonatas Dantas, president of the Jockey Club de Sorocaba.
