Strengthening a Storied Brand at Rogers Farm
Building on the foundation laid by the late legendary horseman Dale Rogers, Tim and Jennie Rogers are proving that a sharp eye for horses and a hands-on work ethic is a winning combination.
Tim Rogers spent his youth learning about horses from a legend—his father, the late Dale Rogers. Today, Tim and his wife, Jennie, are doing more than just honoring the past. They are driving the “RF” brand into a new era, ensuring that their horses remain as competitive and respected as they were during the decades that Dale spent carving a family legacy.
The Rogers legacy began with a story of pure grit. Born in Arkansas, Dale Rogers faced unimaginable hardship, losing both of his parents as a child. He eventually found his way to Louisiana where his natural talent for horsemanship took root. By the time he passed away in 2022 at age 91, Dale had become the golden touch behind a long list of top-tier racehorses.
Numbered among those leading runners were stakes winners Clouds Saying Goodby, Sayin Adios, and Above the Clouds. He also had Big City Adios, Mr Perrys Blue and Im For Real, just to name a few. In 2021, Dale was honored by the AQHA with the prestigious 50 Year Breeders Award. He was also inducted into the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association (LQHBA) Hall of Fame in 2020 for his accomplishments and contributions to racing in Louisiana.
“I grew up with horses—not racehorses the whole time but mostly cow horses,” shared Tim Rogers of growing up in the shadow of his legendary father. “My dad being in the racehorse business is how I got involved with racehorses. It was a ranch life when I was young. My dad was rough on us, but now, looking back, I thank him for it. He probably wasn’t as rough as he should have been on us. We had a big family. My dad farmed all his life. When he was young, both of his parents died. He raised himself in addition to his brothers and sisters. They all had to raise themselves, basically. He couldn’t read or write besides signing his own name. But he worked hard, made a good living, and ended up on top of the world as far as I was concerned.
“When he passed away, he owned 3,000 acres of land and it was all paid for. He did all of it without any education, and with no help. I am very proud of him. The last few years he was alive, he still had a few horses. He was just as proud when I won a race as he was when he won one. He supported us all the way through.
“When my dad received the 50 Year Breeders Award from AQHA is when I realized just how long he’d been doing it and what a great job he had done,” Tim continued. “I am just so proud of everything he accomplished.”
CARRYING ON THE LEGACY
Tim and Jennie, married for 23 years, own and operate Rogers Farm in Lettsworth, Louisiana. Together, they aren’t just maintaining the family name; they are evolving it.
Named LQHBA Champion Breeder in 2022, the Rogers are represented by such standout stars as multiple Grade 1 winners RF Fast Dash N Blood and San Lorenzo Jet. The latter, bred by the Rogers, banked more than $1 million in winning 8-of-11 starts, including the 2022 Lee Berwick Futurity-RG1, the LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity-RG1, and the Laddie Futurity-RG2 for Rogelio Marquez Jr. As a result of his exploits on the racetrack, San Lorenzo Jet’s dam, the Rogers’ Miss Delta Duck (by Fly Jess Fly) was honored as the 2022 Broodmare of the Year by LQHBA.
Safe to say that the couple, who have seven grandchildren from Tim’s two sons, Jason and Kenny, are building a modern powerhouse at Rogers Farm. With a compact broodmare band of just five, the Rogers’ influence on Louisiana’s Quarter Horse circuit was never more evident than when RF Fast Dash N Blood, a horse they bred and sold, secured a thrilling victory in the $1 Million LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity-RG1 at Evangeline Downs in late December for owner Jaime Cardenas. The win extended RF Fast Dash N Blood’s win streak to eight, which includes three Grade 1 wins.
RF Fast Dash N Blood, who also annexed the LQHBA Sale Futurity-RG1 and the Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity-RG1 last year at two, boasts an impressive record of 10-8-1-0 through the end of his freshman season. He totes a bankroll of $1,176,989 into his sophomore year.
