Ochoa Co-Owner Monte Cluck Earns National Golden Spur Award

AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION—June 30, 2020—Monte Cluck, the fourth generation in his family to ranch and farm in the Texas Panhandle, has been named recipient of the 2020 National Golden Spur Award recognizing accomplishments by a single individual in the ranching and livestock industries.
"The award is the most prestigious honor given to one person by both industries,” said Jim Bret Campbell, executive director of the National Ranching Heritage Center at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. “It recognizes iconic industry leaders whose devotion to land and livestock has earned them the notable respect and admiration of their peers.”
Monte and his wife, Katsy, have owned a number of racing American Quarter Horses in whole or as part of a group, but may be best recognized by being a part of the ownership group that campaigned champion Ochoa, who is American Quarter Horse racing's all-time leading earner with $2,781,365 banked in 16 career starts.
The National Golden Spur Award was established in 1978 and is jointly sponsored by the American Quarter Horse Association, National Cattlemen’s Foundation, Ranching Heritage Association, Texas Cattle Feeders Association, Texas Farm Bureau, and Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.
Among the past winners of this award is AQHA Past President Dr. Glenn Blodgett, the respected veterinarian in charge of the horse program at AQHA Best Remuda-winning Four Sixes Ranch at Guthrie, Texas.
