When King Of The Tide won the 2025 All American Futurity-G1, he made history. History is always made when a horse wins the All American Futurity-G1, and his big victory is no exception. That is the nature of the race. His owners Gene E. Bradley, Tod Bradley and Ware Brown also made history as first time owners of an All American Futurity winner. The history making part of this year’s race includes his breeder MJ Farms, who holds the distinct honor of breeding Asscher, the 2024 AQHA Racing World Champion, who was recognized just a few days before the All American, and then King Of The Tide winning the All American Dream. They were also named the AQHA Champion Breeders for the success of the runners they bred in 2024. A historic week for anybody involved in racing!
Trey Wood, the trainer for King Of The Tide, provides the next part of the history made in this year’s All American. Being the winning trainer of the All American Futurity-G1 cemented the Wood family in the history books as the first and only three generations of a family to win this great race. His father, Blane Wood, is a two time All American Futurity-G1 winning trainer with Apocalyptical Jess in 2018 and Whistle Stop Cafe in 2020. Leo Wood, the father and grandfather of Blane and Trey, won the 1979 All American Futurity-G1 with Pie In The Sky. The jockey for King Of The Tide, Ricky Ramierz had his own double winning his first All American with Whistle Stop Cafe for Blane and now for Trey with King Of The Tide. Mister Riptide, bred by MJ Farms and ridden by Ricky Ramierz, was second in the 2019 All American for Blane. Mister Riptide is a half-brother to King Of The Tide.
King Of The Tide, a New Mexico-bred, was consigned by MJ Farms to the 2024 Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Yearling Sale, selling to Gene E. Bradley, Tod Bradley, and Ware Brown for $130,000. His sire is Eye Am King, and his dam is Ms Riptide by Ocean Runaway. The new owners turned their prospect over to Trey Wood for training. His first start, in a maiden race at Sunland Park, told his connections what they might expect. He finished first with a speed index of 102 for the 250 yard race. Things went a little backward in his next start in the Mountain Top Futurity-G2 trial at Ruidoso with a third. He qualified for the finals, where he ran second in the Mountain Top Futurity-RG2.
This is where the weather plays a role in the Ruidoso Triple Crown races: the Ruidoso Futurity-G1, the Rainbow Futurity-G1, and the All American Futurity-G1 for 2025. They ran the Ruidoso Futurity-G1 at Ruidoso where Political Twist won the first leg of the Ruidoso Triple Crown. A race that King Of The Tide didn’t take part in. The Rainbow trials were held at Ruidoso with Political Twist skipping to make his next start in the trials for the All American Futurity-G1. The Rainbow trials were run and then the rain came, and the 2025 Ruidoso meet was canceled for the second year in a row. Envestor was the only horse that qualified for the All American that had qualified for the canceled Rainbow Futurity-G1.
The All American Futurity-G1 trials were run on August 4 and 5 at The Downs At Albuquerque which graciously welcomed the All American to their track. Here are the top five qualifiers from the first day. The first trial saw Political Twist come back from his layoff to win his trial in a time of :21.055. Envestor won trial #4 in a time of :21.136. King Of The Tide ran in trial #7 winning his race in a time of :21.001 with Dragon Link finishing second in a time of :21.118. AJs Wingman won trial #15 in a time of :21.135. The first day of trials saw King Of The Tide, Political Twist, Dragon Link, AJs Wingman and Envestor qualifying in the order of their times in their trials.
The trials for August 5 started like the trials on the 4th. KJ Xquizite Jess won the first trial of the day with a time of :21.121. Dee Favorite Tacha won the second trial in time of :21.176. The next two qualifiers came out of trial #11 with The Diesel Train winning in a time of :21.060 and Rovos Rail finishing second in a time of :21.104. The fifth qualifier came from trial #15, where Lethal Lobo won in :21.194. The five qualifiers based on time were The Diesel Train, Rovos Rail, KJ Xquizit Jess, Dee Favorite Tacha and Lethal Lobo. King Of The Tide was the fastest qualifier overall.
Political Twist was the favorite for the All American Futurity-G1 finals. He was undefeated in the trials and finals of the West Texas Futurity-G2 and the Ruidoso Futurity-G1, and he was the second fastest qualifier for the All American. A New Mexico-bred by MJ Farms, he was sired by Apollitical Jess and is out of the MJ Farms mare C Twister Seis by Tres Seis. When the gates opened it was Political Twist getting an early call but as they went down the track it became primarily a dual between Political Twist and King Of The Tide, who prevailed by a neck with Political Twist second. This was the first time since Marvin and Lela Barnes did it in the 1982 All American Futurity-G1, when they as the breeders of Mr Master Bug and Miss Squaw Hand finished first and second in this great race. Another piece of All American history putting MJ Farms into a unique category.
