Asscher makes a terrific World Champion, not only for the races that she won, but because she strutted her stuff in front of fans in several states. She began her 2024 season in California, headed to New Mexico, and finished up the year in Texas.
After ending 2023 becoming a stakes winner for the first time in the Holiday Handicap at Los Alamitos, Asscher qualified the fastest for the Los Alamitos Oaks-G1. Under jockey Christian Ramos, she zipped 400 yards in :19.457, the second-fastest time in the race’s history, to score by 3/4-length. She gave Ramos and trainer Marc Jungers the first Grade 1 win of their careers.
“It was so special to win that in California to start her year off,” said Jimmy Barton, who owns Asscher with Lance Bland. “She would go from track to track, and she would actually take maybe one race to get settled in at a track. When she was on, she was on.”
In New Mexico, Asscher just missed with a second in the July 28 Rainbow Oaks-G1 at Albuquerque. Then Jungers took her to Lone Star Park, where she put on a real show.
First Asscher qualified for the Dash for Cash Derby-G2. In the Oct. 5 final, against males, ultimately, the photo could not distinguish between Asscher and her stablemate Relentless Eagle, resulting in a dead heat.
In the trials for the Purina Feeds Texas Classic Oaks she led throughout the 400 yards, scoring by a 1/2-length, again with Ramos aboard. That earned her Championships as Three Year Old, Three-Year-Old Filly, and World Champion.
Asscher is the third consecutive Three-Year-Old Filly Champion in her family. MJ Farms bred Asscher in New Mexico from homebred Astica, the Champion Three-Year-Old Filly of 2015. They also bred and raced Asscher’s second dam, Alice K White, the Champion Three-Year-Old Filly of 2009.
MJ Farms sold Asscher to Bland for $350,000 at the 2022 Ruidoso Select Sale. It was the highest price for a filly at that year’s sale.
“She was a doll from the beginning,” said Bland. “She had a lot of little hiccups here and there—just couldn’t get out of the gates as a two year old. When she finally did, she really stood above all. It’s a dream come true—a once-in-a-lifetime deal.”

Lethal Cowboy 123 has done just about everything asked of him, which has included quite a few van rides between California and New Mexico.
“He’s been on a van as much as any horse in the country, I would say,” trainer Marc Jungers said.
Bred in California, Lethal Cowboy 123 has become a star in his native state. Through August of his three-year-old season, he has been perfect at Los Alamitos, and his performances there in 2024 earned him the titles of Champion Two Year Old and Two-Year-Old Gelding. It is the second consecutive Two-Year-Old Champion for his sire, Flying Cowboy 123, following Cowboys Gun Z in 2023.
